So… Mob Psycho 100 II (Season 2). Before we discuss the S2, Remember in S1 when Ritsu Kageyama was kidnapped and Mob went psycho on that guy? Admit it, back then you thought this was gonna be a crazy action Shounen anime series.
That “kidnapping” made me think it finally past the comedy part like in Katekyo Hitman Reborn. However, the beginning of Season 2 ruined my expectations regarding that. HOWEVER. I’m not saying season 2 is bad, I’m just saying I expected something different. Until “certain” moment…
So what happens in the beginning of S2? Mob Psycho “resets” into goofy/silly comedy and occasional ghost bashing. and to be honest, that made me question producers intentions. Don’t get me wrong, Mob Psycho is not a bad mix of genres, on the contrary, it’s pretty unique and very much enjoyable… but also confusing?
Speaking of Confusing…
Sudden escalation wasn’t really unexpected to be honest, but not that kind of escalation. I’m still not convinced how to feel about this story progression. It went from full silence to absolute madness in a blink, which was great, though, I’d much rather prefer confrontation with the “Claw” from the S1 (ending) than random “no-name monsters”. But I guess that’s being delayed as much as possible.
I don’t know about you guys but I really, really hate flashbacks and character past unveiling. and to be absolutely honest, 99/100 times I just fast forward it. This time though, oh sneaky “One“… The moment I realized what I was watching was already too late, because I was already hooked. This was one of the most painless character backstory unveilings I’ve ever seen. Not only that, these two episodes (4-5) were probably the best of total 9 I’ve seen in Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 so far. Especially the Episode 8, very ending of it to be precise. As someone who doesn’t like Drama, let me tell you, this was epic, not totally surprising though. Now, we can all agree that Reigen is an awesome character.
200 and counting…
Was about to give up and accept the fact Mob Psycho 100 was going to be a Goof <–> Badass roller-coaster… When episode 8 aired and everything turned into a total madness. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the progression. And everything is going the way I wanted. It’s just that I did not expect that… again.
Now, let me answer the question that brought you here. Is Mob Psycho 100 II (season 2) good? The answer is Yes! – One of the absolutely must-see series of 2019. Keep in mind though, that only applies to you, if you enjoyed the S1. I’m saying that because, some people that I know that are into Shounen anime, simply don’t watch Mob Psycho because of the “weird”, drawings and art. If this really unique art is no issue, consider yourself lucky. Because Mob Psycho 100 is a great show.
